Install the card bridge

One-time, per computer. The bridge is a tiny signed helper between this extension and the Belgian eID software — it holds no keys, makes no network calls, and the PIN dialog you'll see belongs to the government middleware.

Downloads from the Hesskey nodes; registers the bridge for the Hesskey extension automatically (the extension id is now pinned — same on every machine).

Unsigned for now — Windows: "More info → Run anyway"; macOS: right-click → Open. Then reload the extension and hit "Check again" on the web app.

PowerShell — paste this one line

Open PowerShell (no admin needed) and paste. It downloads the bridge from the Hesskey nodes, verifies its checksum, and registers it for this extension — prompting once for the id above (or filling it via the parameter shown).

  1. Reload this extension (chrome://extensions → ↻) or restart the browser.
  2. Open the Hesskey web app → Use your eID card reader → Check again.
  3. Real cards also need the Belgian eID software (the government middleware) — download it.
⚠ Hesskey will never ask for your eID PIN in a web page — only the government software's own dialog (or your reader's pinpad) may.
